Text Message Terms

Effective October 1, 2026.

Program

LACoFD AOC Alerts is the text-message program of the Los Angeles County Fire Department Association of Chiefs (the “Association”). Messages are sent from (213) 723-0605 to members who have provided a cell phone number and agreed to receive texts.

What members receive

One-time codes to confirm a phone number or to sign in to the member website and app, reminders for Association meetings and events, notices from the Executive Board, and notices when a vote opens. The Association does not send advertising or promotional messages, and it does not send messages on behalf of any other organization.

How to opt in

Text messages are optional and are never a condition of membership. A member opts in on the Association’s website only: by checking the text-message consent box, which is unchecked by default, on the Text Alerts page, when registering, or under Notices in My Profile, and then confirming the number with a one-time code where one is sent. Every opt-in receives one confirmation text: “LACoFD AOC: You are opted in to texts from the Los Angeles County Fire Dept Association of Chiefs (meeting notices, reminders, account codes). Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.” Consent is recorded with the date, time, and network address. A member who does not opt in receives sign-in and account-recovery codes by email instead.

Texting (213) 723-0605 does not sign anyone up. A text from a number that has not opted in receives one reply pointing to the website, and nothing further.

Message frequency and cost

Message frequency varies with Association business; most members receive a few messages a month. Message and data rates may apply according to the member’s carrier plan. The Association does not charge for messages.

How to opt out

Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. The Association sends one message confirming the opt-out and no further texts. Members can also turn texts off in My Profile. Turning texts off also turns off text codes for sign-in and account recovery, which then arrive by email. A member who has opted out can turn texts back on in My Profile or by replying START (or RESUME) to (213) 723-0605, which the messaging provider answers with a confirmation.

Help

Reply HELP to any message for assistance, or email info@lacofdaoc.org.

Carriers

Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on the member’s carrier and device.

Privacy

How the Association handles phone numbers and other member information is described in the Privacy Policy. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes, and opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.
